Victorian crime and punishment

The Victorian period saw great changes in how people were caught, arrested and charged to appear in court

The punishment in school was very strict. If you started to talk in class you had 30 lashes to your hand with a cane. You got took to court for even stealing onions and in that time it was a very serious crime. Take the case of John Walker he stole 4 onions and got took into prison for seven years.
