Bens Time Out

House of Commons

Parliament is split into 3: Commons, Queen, and the Lords. There are 650 MP’s and approximately 720 Lords.  The Queen has a giant throne, it’s made of wood but it’s painted to look like gold, there are parts of it that are real gold like the angel’s hand, feet and face. In the House of Commons the seats are green but in the House of Lords the seats are red.

Parliament Street

Parliament Street is awesome and it’s just next to Downing Street were David Cameron lives.

David Cameron is the Prime Minister of this country. He works with Nick Clegg and he does a lot of debating. The Prime Minister belongs to the house of Commons. He lives at 10 Downing Street.

Cenotaph

Cenotaph is close to Downing Street, it’s where people go to pay their respects to the people who died in the war to save our lives. Cenotaph means empty tomb.

Changing of the Guard

Changing of the Guard  The  changing of  the  guard  was  scary  for  some  people. Because they came very close to you and they shouted a lot plus they had big sharp silver swords. There were horse guards to when they change they sometimes shout “make way for the guards” the foot guard guides the horse guards in then a new set of guards comes out. The new horse guards go into the boxes then the foot guard takes position.

London Underground

The London Underground is a giant place, where you can easily get lost. But when you are in the tube, you really have fun because it’s as fast as lightning. There are people that are called street buskers and when you here there music it sometimes puts you into a trance.

Sherilyn's London time out tour

With more than 300 million visitors each year the natural history museum is one of London’s most popular attractions and it’s little wonder when you consider that it’s home to the world’s finest collection of natural history artefacts.

Hundreds of exciting, interactive exhibits. Highlights include Dinosaurs, the ultimate dinosaur exhibition. It’s unforgettable and free!!!

 House of Commons

The house of commons looked smaller than I expected. It looked interesting as it’s seen on TV. There were lots of baby microphones above the green seats that you’re not allowed to sit on(the sergeant at arms) . It all looked very posh but looks quite old. The queen always opens the parliament once a year.

Parliament  Street

Parliament Street had many things such as Big Ben, the Cenotaph, Westminster abbey, lots of souvenir shops and very formal guards.

Cenotaph

While we had a walk around London we came by the cenotaph.  We were remembering the people who protected and saved our lives during the war. We stood there quietly for 30 seconds and carried on touring around London.

Changing of the Guard

The changing of the guard was amazing. It is so cool how they remember what moves come next. But it was rather scary for me when the came close. I’m glad I took as many pictures.

The London Underground

The London underground was the best of all. It was much busier than I imagined.

It went really fast but gave me the butterflies because it really did scare me. My shoulders really couldn’t cope with it. But it was very exciting.

The underground had moaning muttering trains that travelled like a vicious vampire. Inside the train it had cramped and curled strangers snuggling with there scary scowling faces, glaring at there I pods, listening to the loud vibrating tunes spreading around the tube.

JAKES LONDON TIME OUT !!!!!!!!!!!

The London Underground

Dark tubes as fast as an Ariel monster beasting all the others.

Once on the tube, watching the tranced tourists play away in their game worlds!!!!!!!!!!!!

Squished cornered and boxed off. That’s how I felt as I sat on the floor by the door with my class waiting and watching

Parliament

Parliament is split into 3 parts: Queen, Commons, and the Lords. There are 650 MPs and approximately 720 Lords.

Parliament Street is awesome! Near it is 10 Downing Street where David Cameron lives. The whole police squad was body protected by metal plated armour.  They also had MP3 machine guns.

Cenotaph

At the Cenotaph you should sit and pay your respects to all the dead soldiers who tried to help us all.

Changing of the Guard

Really SCARY GUARD    THIS ONE DID NOT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  CRAZY GUARDS.

Hundreds of exciting, interactive exhibits. Highlights include Dinosaurs, the ultimate dinosaur exhibition. It’s unforgettable and free!!!

House of Commons

The house of commons was smaller than I thought it was split into three sections the liberal democrats and coalition led by David Cameron the prime minister and his deputy Nick Clegg. The oppositions the labour party. The house of commons was green and the queen was not allowed in there.

Parliament Street

Parliament Street contains the big Ben, house of parliament, west minister abbey, the cenotaph and lots of souvenir shops. The souvenirs from London are great you can get teddy bears, ear muffs, bags and sooooo much more!! I like parliament it is simply huge with the House of Commons and the House of Lords, did you know that there are 650 people in the House of Commons and the queen is only allowed in the House of Lords, there she has a golden throne!!! (yes it is REAL!! Gold… well most of it any way!!!)

 cenotaph

At the cenotaph we had 30 seconds of remembering those who fort for us in the war, to remember all the blood shed for us in the war, to remember all the lives lost for us in the war, to remember to pay our respects to the people who sadly cannot live before us now and be proud!!

Changing of the Guard

The changing of the guard was brilliant. I really liked the horses how they just looked at you with an evil eye, checking you aren’t someone suspicious. I found it very funny how the guards were blanked out, especially when tourists, (like us) took lots of pictures with our flashing cameras and they just stand still. Then one hour passes and they think time for me tea and crumpets sonny!!

The London Underground

As I hopped on the train I felt like I had been put on to a cheetah’s back and we were being whooshed to a new dark world full of people who are tranced and blanked out from every thing!!! Even the sea of people and mess surrounding them!!!

I cant believe how fast this train is I mean would you if it whizzed past you it is faster than the Hogwarts train in Harry potter!!

The London Underground

London Underground is the oldest underground railway in the world, the first section opened in 1863.

The London underground goes to 270 Stations and has 402km of track.

In World War 2 the London underground was used as an air raid shelter because it protected people from the bombs above ground.

In the London underground breeze whooshes past you as the trains zoom through like lightening when I got on the train it was jampacked! I had to stand up and I wobbled like jelly on a plate as the train juddered through the dark tunnels.

Natural History Museum

As I entered the room I was amazed to see Dippy the Dinosaur, he was ginormous!!

We walked a round the Natural History Museum and saw a scary moving T-rex, I jumped out of my skin when I saw it, then it roared at me.

Tia's London Time Out Tour!

With more than 300 million visitors each year the natural history museum is one of London’s most popular attractions and it’s little wonder when you consider that it’s home to the world’s finest collection of natural history artefacts.Hundreds of exciting, interactive exhibits. Highlights include Dinosaurs, the ultimate dinosaur exhibition. Its unforgettable and free!!!

                                                                              House of Commons

The house of Commons is very interesting. As seen on TV, green seats are everywhere with tiny microphones dangling in front of them. You were not allowed to sit on them; if you did sergeant arms would arrest you! The house of Commons is a very exciting place also the thought that you are in the exact room on TV , and also that you have walked the same floors as the famous David Cameron!

                Parliament Street

Parliament Street is full of amazing things such as 10 Downing Street. There is also some very formal guards – two on horseback and one standing straight in between. If you are lucky you will see the changing of the guard!

                                                                                             Cenotaph

While walking around London, you may pass the Cenotaph. Many stand in silence while remembering the people who saved many lives in the wars.

                                             Changing of the guard

The changing of the guard is sometimes very amusing. Watching guards march around and switching people is an amazing sight to see.( the guards wear funny yellow hats) Even the horses switch! Tourists are  free to take pictures of them with the guards but be warned the horses may bite and kick when they are annoyed so I would watch out if I were you!

                                                                           The London Underground

Going underground is very exciting. While going down the sound of calming music fills the air as the soft wind gently strokes your face.  . It isn’t very busy down in the underground as it is on top.  The curving of the walls makes you feel relaxed and safe. Half way down, you may feel the rush of air attacking you caused by transport tubes that run as fast as cheetahs!

As you board the tube you may feel tense but there is nothing to worry about after a slight jerk the tube sets off into the darkness. During the trip you may see tourists tranced by their IPods ( a little peace and quiet! ) .   when the tubes stop you may be lucky enough to find that only a few passengers board the tube, if you’re not so lucky, a sea of people barge into the tube so I would advise that as soon as you board the train it would be better to sit down , if you can’t, STAY AWAY FROM THE DOORS!

Air Raid Shelters

Warning of the approaching bombers was given by the air aid sirens. As the sirens made their dreadful waling noise people stopped and quickly took shelter.

The government gave out anderson shelters free to people who earned less than £5 per week .These were small but far more comfortable than the large crowded public shelters.

Night after night the German bombers bombed the city. For 75 out of 76  nights after 1940 London was bombed. Thousands of people living in London sheltered in the underground stations. Mattresses covered the platform and people even step on the escalators.

sports during world war 2

During ww2 the most popular sports were: baseball, football, horse riding, track and field, cricket, soccer and swimming.

The world cup then was not as big as it is now but round about the same amount of countries play`

The olympic games was also a popular mixture of sports during ww2.There were no times the olympic games were on during ww2. The 1940 olympic games were cancelled and so were the 1944 olympics but thankfully ww2 ended in 1945 so the olympics in 1948 could take place!
