Do you think slavery is alright?
Slavery went on for thousands of years, Greeks, Vikings and Romans were all involved. Slavery was abolished by Britain parliament when William Wilberforce fought to have it ended in 1800’s. By then it had created vast wealth for many countries.
Slave dealers got thousands of pounds a week just by selling: tobacco, cotton and sugar and so on. Slave dealers traded cheap trinkets for slaves, that way they made more money. No money was given to the slaves that are good for the slave dealers. Six cent equals $1.00 dollar in these days, so if slavery carried on they’d make even more money now.
The excuses used by the for slavery campaign was that taking Africans from Africa made it easier for them to eat and get water. They also get fed more and drink more than they did when they lived in Africa. Slavery was in the bible and approved of by god in the day of Abraham. They argued that African societies and cultures were, unskilled, uneducated and savage.
The anti- slavery society used the bible for back up for their argument. They pointed to biblical text like Luke 16:13 “no man can serve two masters”. The claims of pro-slavery lobby, for example wrote in his pamphlet the just limitation of slavery in the laws of god.
African slavery has been stopped. It took hundreds of years for people to realise that it was wrong.
