For thousands of years slavery was around causing either fortune or misery for many. The Greek’s, Roman’s, Viking’s, Americans and the British Empire have all been involved at some stage.

Before slavery was made illegal, slaves were sold to plantation owners to serve their every command.  In the 1800s William Wilberforce fought to end slavery whilst the slave traders traded slaves and increased their vast wealth and power.

At the start at the slave triangle in the 1700’s the pro-slavery people had many reasons and arguments to show how important it was to Britain. The biggest reason used by many was that the economy (business) would collapse because there was so much money being made.

Other reasons that the slave trade didn’t end was because of the wealth that the plantation owners made from selling the cotton, coffee, tobacco and sugar that their slaves had farmed. Many more died on the voyage to the Caribbean. Conditions on the ships were terrible one incident reported by a ship’s captain stated that during his journey ‘over 100 male slaves’ had thrown themselves over board.
